The free version is a little limited, so you may have to shell out the £15 per month subscription to get access to a much more immersive version.
However, the Heavyweight team have trialled Kahoot extensively and it’s by far the best way to conduct a quiz online.
By sharing/presenting your screen via Google Hangouts, your guests will be able to view picture-based questions, straight Q&A, true or false and a host of other interactive questions, all while answering on their phones.
A score is kept and a leaderboard displayed after each question, with detailed analysis being provided at the end of the quiz.
For the cost of a couple of drinks, your best bet for hosting an online quiz during lockdown, is Kahoot.
Sporcle is another online quiz platform, designed to test both your contestant’s knowledge and spelling.
The format is simple to present, simply pull up the quiz of choice (there are thousands to choose from) and share your screen.
It’s more of a basic format, but Sporcle still provides good variety and inspiration for questions and answers.
Quizupp is an app which is great for playing games one v one. House Party is another and both apps are free and available to download by clicking on the links included.
Organising a music quiz is a good way to change things up.
Have everybody place themselves on mute via Google hangouts or Zoom, apart from yourself. Play the song via your phone and the first person to recognise the song simply has to ‘buzz’ by unmuting and shouting out the answer.
A picture round is simple to set up, all you have to do is utilize PowerPoint and place an image on each slide.
You can use any kind of chat platform to monitor answers, such as Whatsapp. Simply get people to send their answers and you can keep a tab.
Pictures can be partially covered to keep things interesting and difficult.
Will the concept of a celebrity even exist after Coronavirus? Their irrelevance has only been exacerbated during the crisis, but that’s not to say they can’t be entertaining from time to time in terms of the pearls of wisdom they seem to dish up every now and again.
